How do I prevent my text messages from being filtered (blocked)?
Message filtering refers to the blocking of text messages by wireless carriers that are deemed to be in violation of their messaging policies.
The below guidelines will reduce the chance that your messages will be subject to filtering:
- Do not send links that have been shortened using shared public URL shorteners, such as TinyUrl or free Bitly links.
- Do not utilize emojis in your messages e.g. 👍🔥 ⚡️🌞
- Do not use unnecessary special characters e.g. %@&#
- Do not use unnecessary capitalization e.g. "LEAVE THE AREA RIGHT NOW!!!!"
- Try to restrict messages length to 320 characters or 2 message segments, as longer messages are more prone to filtering.
- Use correct grammar and spelling.
If your use case makes your organization prone to carrier filtering (high volume and/or burst traffic), we can acquire a verified toll-free number for sending your text message traffic. Please contact us to learn more, or to begin the regulatory application process.
